This morning I cooked the kids and I omelets for breakfast. Used about 3/4 pound of bacon, two eggs per, a green onion and 4 large mushrooms. Put a little bit of pepper-jack cheese on mine. I tried some sage, rosemary and thyme on them, sprinkled into the omelet mix. It had a pretty good effect, I think.

Thanks for the idea, I had been craving omelets since I read this post.

Thanks Charlie! I couldn’t agree more. The Hollywood idea of the lone wolf living off the land is just as ridiculous as the romanticized version of war that they have tried to push for decades. There is nothing romantic about war, and there is nothing easy about trying to live off the land. Back before modern conveniences, people knew that they had to prepare for hard times, because hard times were just a part of life. Those who didn’t prepare, didn’t make it. I believe that we are headed for hard times. The lifestyles we have become accustomed to in the western world are not sustainable. People who refuse to see that change is coming & do something to prepare for it are going to be in trouble.

I am studying bushcraft and the minimalist way of surviving so if it comes to that point I may be ready . It is abundantly clear that living off of the land is next to impossible unless you like long periods of fasting. Yes you can augment your food supply but the process of prepping is the only way to really make it. I have been teaching a survival class at a college level where we ate cat tail roots and stocks, dandy lions and acorns. To be honest with you there is a reason it is not on the shelfs in stores. It tastes like (you fill in the blank). Get back to the basic skills while there is time to enjoy learning them. Knowledge is power and freedom. There are none so ignorant as the willfully ignorant. It is later than you could possibly imagine. You can be fine just get at it. Charlie P

Thank you so much. They are amazing! We have truly been blessed with them, and I am still kind of in shock by it all. It still hasn’t quite sunk in that I have 2 baby girls. Having Melayna home now has made it more real. I can’t wait until Michaela is able to come home too! Everyone keeps teasing me about not ever getting any sleep for the next few years. That’s ok. It’s a small price to pay to have them!
