About Me

Hello, and thanks for checking out my blog.

I am not a professional writer, or a “survival expert.” I am just a normal guy that sees what’s going on in the world, and doesn’t like what he sees. I have made this blog to share things that I’ve learned with other people to try to help them with their own journey toward self-sufficiency. I’m not the guy screaming “the end is near.” I don’t think that we are close to the collapse of civilization right now. I do believe that we are at a point that we’re going to be facing some major changes in our lives over the coming years, and for those who are not prepared, those changes could be devastating.

As things change in the world, more and more people are starting to wake up & realize that the systems that we have in place in our lives are fragile, and sometimes they break down. Sometimes the trucks don’t get to the store to bring your food. Sometimes the power goes out & stays out for days, or even weeks. Sometimes people lose their jobs. All of us are susceptible to disasters, whether natural, or man-made. Major disasters like hurricanes & tornadoes, or relatively minor ones such as a job loss, or major illness. Terrorism is increasing all the time, both abroad & here in the United States. Our economy is a disaster, and so is that of almost every nation in the world. Our dependance on oil is going to have a major impact on everyone in the coming years. The oil supply is finite, and the demand is increasing at an alarming rate. We simply cannot continue to provide low cost oil for everyone in the world that wants it.

As we move into an uncertain future, I believe that it is arrogant & naive to believe that we will not ever be affected by any hardship or tragedy. It is irresponsible to willingly ignore the possibility that we could face hard times, and to do something to prepare for that. The time to prepare for hard times is when times are relatively good. Those who fail to do so will ultimately be in far worse shape when (not if) they are faced with hardship.

I believe that by making small incremental changes in our lifestyles, we can move toward a position of greater independence from these fragile, unsustainable systems. We can become more self-sufficient, and thereby less vulnerable to outside interference in our lives. I don’t believe however that 100% self-sufficiency is attainable, or even desirable for most of us. I believe that close friendships, & community are key to success in all aspects of life. I have no desire to live completely alone & have no interaction with other people.

To me, survival is not a “Rambo” character living in the woods with his knife. Nor is it a bunker full of guns, ammo, & MRE’s. Survival is simply continuing to live as normal a life as possible, no matter what happens around you. Many things are beyond our control, but people have learned to adapt & overcome many hardships throughout history. If you educate yourself, and prepare ahead of time, you may live when others die. You may simply experience an inconvenience, where other are dramatically affected. As I said before, if you refuse to prepare, then you are irresponsible, and you fail to fulfill your obligations to yourself & your family.
